Can you believe that Christmas is right around the corner? The best time to start preparing is now–it allows you to avoid the crowds and save those days before Christmas for relaxing with your friends and family.
There are lots of fun Christmas traditions you can start–whether you’re an older couple with no kids at home, a first year married couple, new parents, parents of teens, a group of friends, or busy college students! Junction City Self Storage has compiled some of our favorite ideas to start this year!
A New Storybook a Day
For families with kids, this can be a fun tradition to enjoy the whole month of December, sparking imaginations and introducing kids to beloved Christmas stories. Throughout the year, search consignment stores and garage sales for the best kids’ Christmas stories. Some of our favorites include the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Three Trees, The Polar Express, Bear Stays Up for Christmas, Arthur’s Christmas, and any books by Jan Brett like The Mitten or Gingerbread Baby.
Making a Memory Book of the Year for Each Person
This can be done for children, elderly relatives, friends, or a gift for the whole family. The Chatbooks app makes this especially easy, affordable, and simple to do. Just make an account, select photos from your phone or social media accounts to use, add any captions or locations desired, choose a cover, and ship it! The best part–these books can be ordered again if one ever gets lost or destroyed. Give the book to them on Christmas Eve for everyone to enjoy looking through together!
A Special Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Meal
While many families may have traditional Christmas Eve or Day dinners with family and friends, try to choose a meal sometime in those two days that become more of a casual celebration with your family, from fondue to pizza, or even Chinese (make sure to watch A Christmas Story while you eat takeout!)
Read a Book Aloud and Do a Puzzle Together
For those without the business of young children around, a special way to enjoy the holidays together could be to pick a new novel or book each December to listen to (check out Audible or Hoopla) or read while completing something fun like the same Christmas puzzle each year.
A Service Project on Christmas Day
Nothing is better to develop a true Christmas spirit than giving up of your time and energy to serve others on this special day. While giving money is needed and good, nothing can replace getting out there and spending some time serving the community. Many families volunteer at churches or shelters to serve a hot meal, shop for and deliver Christmas to a family in need, or spend time at a senior living home or children’s hospital, investing in those who may not have family close by to celebrate.
It’s never too late to make this Christmas season a memorable one, focused on the gifts of family and friends more than the possessions being given! If those possessions have taken over space needed for hosting family and friends this Christmas, or you just need a place to store all the Christmas decor, give us a call at Self Assured Storage. Our experts can help you get it all packed up and safely stored in one of our facilities, so you can have open spaces for all the fun that this Christmas season will bring!
